There are many market research companies on the internet, that are looking for panel members who can complete online surveys about new products, or to express their opinions (good or bad) about the people who sell us these products. Signing up to these survey companies will take on average around 5 minutes to do so. They will just need some background details about yourself, such as your gender, where you live, your age or your income. Be truthful, as they are looking for a wide cross section of panellists, and don't worry about your personal details as these will be kept private. You can always check out their privacy policy before you sign up.
After you have signed up to a survey site, surveys will start arriving into your inbox usually within a week. Don't feel you have to complete every survey that you receive. Most survey sites will keep sending you surveys even if you haven't completed any surveys for a few months, I can only think of Pinecone Research who will drop you from their panel if you have missed a couple of surveys.
Some surveys will carry a few screener questions at the start of the survey to make sure that you fit the criteria of the survey. If you are not what they are looking for, then you will not be allowed to complete the rest of the survey. Most survey sites will give you a small reward for your time when you don't qualify for the rest of the survey. Global Test Market will always give you 5 market points even when you don't qualify.
Surveys will vary in length, but most take between 5 and 20 minutes. Most survey sites operate point systems, cash payments or competition entries. Every survey site will have a different reward system, but you can expect to receive on average, around 2 pounds per 20 minute survey. However, you can increase your hourly pay by signing up to more survey sites, and being more selective on which surveys to complete first. Personally, I always complete the highest cash reward surveys first. However, don't always ignore the competition surveys, as these can be good earners, as most panellists will not bother to complete them. GFK is a good site for winning cash prizes in their regular prize draws.
Once you are proven to the survey site that you are a good panellist, some survey sites will send you survey invitations to take part in online focus groups. These are always worth doing, as the pay rate is much higher.
It can be difficult to find genuine market research companies on the internet. You can spend ages searching for them on Yahoo or Google. However, to save you time, money and effort, I would recommend checking out Surveymoneymaker. There are over 40 survey sites listed here, who are currently looking for new panel members. All these sites are free to join.
Completing online surveys must be one of the easiest, and enjoyable ways to make some extra cash in your spare time. There are very few home businesses that you can start with no initial investment!
